Project #36 Fun Fishing Game

2_Magnetic-Goldfish-Game

Magnetic Goldfish Game by Khali from Little. Lovely.

This fun fishing game will help younger children with their fine motor development.

What you’ll need:
*Orange craft paper
*Orange marker pen
*Black felt tip pen
*Scissors
*Cellotape
*2 Lengths of twine
*2 Unsharpened pencils
*Glue
*4 Cupcake papers
*5 Metal paper clips
*2 Small magnets (round with a hole in the middle work best)

2_Fish-Steps

step one:
…Draw an outline of a goldfish and a mirror image of the same fish on craft paper. Repeat for the number of fish required. (We made five.)
step two:
…Decorate your fish (we gave ours scales) and cut them out using small scissors.
step three:
…Attach a paperclip to the back of one fish with cellotape, leaving a small section of paperclip sticking out the end of the fish. Apply glue, align the fish’s mirror image and stick together. Repeat for remaining fish.
step four:
…Make lily pads by flattening a green cupcake paper and cutting out a small section as shown. Apply glue to the round centre of the green cupcake paper and stick red cupcake paper to centre.
step five:
…Make your fishing pole by tying a piece of twine to the end of an unsharpened pencil. Attach magnet to the other end of the twine. Repeat for your second pole. Now, go fish!

How to play:
*Take turns to try and catch the fish by placing your fishing pole’s magnet on the paperclip sticking from the fish’s mouth.
*Spin your pencil between two fingers to reel in your fish.
*Place any caught fish in your lily pad.
*After all the fish have been caught, count your fish. The person with the most fish wins!

Note: Increase the difficulty of the game for older children by making different coloured fish and poles in corresponding colours.

Nature Crowns and Cuffs by Maya Donenfeld from maya*made
This nature inspired project is for a group and would make a perfect pening activity at a birthday party. We will be creating crowns decorated with assorted flower petals and leaves. Extend this activity by beginning with a walk to collect your materials and end it with a garden tea party or picnic!

What you will need:

*assorted flowers and leaves
*large tray (optional)
*duct tape
*scissors
* paper bag or Kraft paper

Crown
step one
Have your child dissect the flowers by gently pulling apart all of the petals. Suggestion: consider sorting by color and size.

step three
Cut a piece of duct tape equal in length  to your paper strips. Lay it sticky side up on your work surface. Carefully adhere the strips along the top and bottom edge of the tape.

Project #33 Jumping Cups

1_jumpingcup

Jumping Cup Handmade Toy by Kristen Sutcliffe from New House Project

Make a simple toy using cups and rubber bands. I made a flying rocket and a jumping frog, but there are lots of other possibilities with this project.

What you'll need:
*2 disposable cups (paper or plastic will both work)
*2 rubber bands
*scissors
*different colors of paper scraps
*double-sided tape
*clear tape

1_jumpingcup_2

Step one:
Use different scraps of paper, and cut out the shapes that you will need to decorate your cup as a flying rocket (or jumping frog, rabbit, kangaroo, etc.)
Step two:
Cut both rubber bands so that they are no longer circles.  Tie one knot on each end of both rubber bands.
Step three:
Cut four small slits into the rim of one of the cups.  (One cup will be used as is, so do not cut both cups.)  Then stretch the rubber bands across the rim of the cup and slide each end into one of the slits.  The knots should be enough to hold the rubber bands in place.

1_jumpingcup_3

Step four:
Use double-sided tape to decorate your rubber band cup and turn it into a rocket ship.
Step five:
Use two pieces of clear tape to make two small tabs on opposite sides of the cup.  You will hold these tabs to launch your rocket.
Step six:
Your rocket is ready to go.  Place the regular cup on the ground.  Put the rocket cup over it and pull down on the tabs.  Then let go to see your rocket fly.  Please supervise your children while using this toy!
