Project #70: Paper quilling

Paperquilling

Paper quilling by Khali from Little. Lovely.

I love paper art and am especially enamoured with Yulia Brodskaya’s <http://www.artyulia.com/ > work. I haven’t done any quilling <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quilling> for quite a few years, but decided to dust of my supplies and try to create a special craft project for a first birthday present. Here’s how you can create pretty three dimensional numbers for cards or to frame and give as gifts.

You’ll need:
*Quilling paper
*Quilling tool
*PVA glue
*Coloured paper
*Plain paper or blank card

PaperSteps

Step one:
Cut out your number from coloured paper and glue to the front of your card or sheet of plain paper.
Step two:
Create a quilling design to cover your number. The two basic designs used for quilling are coils and scrolls that can be made either loose or tight to create different effects. These designs can be bent or creased to create other shapes. You can find detailed instructions for creating different shapes here. Remember to glue your shape together with glue to prevent it from unrolling.
Step three:
Use glue to attach your design to your number and allow to dry.
Step four:
Frame as we did, or place card in an envelope to give to someone special.

Project #69: Photo Ornaments for Christmas

Ornaments

Photo Ornaments by Helen Bird from Curly Birds

Turn an old paper bag into pretty holiday keepsakes to hang on your tree or slip them into Christmas cards.

What you’ll need:
*Photo
*Paper bag
*Ribbon
*Double-Sided Photo Stickers
*Scissors
*Pen
*Stencils

Ornamentmix

Step 1:
Draw a frame on the paper bag with two circle stencils and decorate it with a fun design.
Step 2:
Cut around the inside and outside of the frame.
Step 3:
Attach the frame to the photo and cut the picture around the outside of the frame.
Step 4:
Cut another paper bag circle for the back of the ornament (if the paper has a design on it, attach the design to the inside of the frame so the plain side is facing out). Record the date on the back of the ornament.
Step 5:
Cut the ribbon to size and twist it to make a loop. Insert the loop between the photo and ornament back, attach with the double-sided tape.

With this recycled greeting, you’ll be spreading holiday cheer for your loved ones and the earth.
