"For me Christmas is a time to spend quality time together with family and friends; a time to relax, play games and have long conversations over yummy home cooked feasts. I have always lived in the southern hemisphere so in my mind Christmas and summer go together… I know this must sound weird for everyone up north :-) I have very fond memories of Christmas celebrations by the beach when I was a kid.

Every Christmas we try to go back to our home country (Argentina) to spend this special time with our families. But this year we are changing plans and celebrating with some lovely friends here in Australia in a beachside cottage a few hours out of Sydney. We are all really looking forward to some warm and relaxing summer days together!"

"We will be away on holidays at the beach for Christmas. In Australia it is very hot at Christmas…so very different to the white Christmas I used to celebrate as a child growing up in the UK. Christmas to me is a wonderful time for family…spent with loved ones: relaxing, enjoying lovely company and eating beautiful food. I love the weeks leading up to Christmas…baking gingerbreadmen, making decorations, hanging up decorations, shopping for gifts and wrapping presents with brown paper and twine. It really is a magical time!"

"Last month Christchurch was struck by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake and since this event, I've been reminded of how much goodwill people have towards one another and their willingness to lend a helping hand. Kids who've lost their schools have received toys to put a smile back on their faces, families who are now homeless have found shelter through local support, businesses are being rebuilt or relocated with the aid of the public. People are helping complete strangers to get back on their feet. So for me, Christmas this year is not just about family - it's about community. Individuals coming together and supporting one another. Christmas can be a time of depression and sadness for many and sometimes we need reminding that the world is full of people who want to reach out and help when we're in need. Our little family is lucky that we'll be able to celebrate over a barbecue, splashing at the local beach and soaking up the sun and love of close family and friends this Christmas.
