DIY Watermelon print tote bag by Wimke

It's a trend, these watermelon prints are everywhere during the summertime! I wanted to do make something with this summery print. The girls are going on a school trip. I wanted to make a summerbag with watermelons on it, where they can keep their sandwiches , drinks and sweets in it.

What you'll need:
* Potato
* Acrylic paint - Red & Green
* Brush
* Black marker
* Canvas bag

Step 1: Iron the bag smooth. You cut the potato through the middle.

Step 2: This will become your stamp. To avoid pushing through of the paint, you can put a magazine in the bag. Put the red paint on a palette or any (unwanted) flat surface and press the potato into the paint. Stamp the potato onto the bag.

Step 3: Paint a green semicircle around the potato stamp with the brush.

Step 4: To finish off the watermelon, use the marker to draw the seeds of the watermelon.

Step 5: Allow the bag to dry and it is ready for a school trip or a day out to the beach!Wimke

Thank you Wimke! Watermelons are indeed a great part of the summer time..

#Project 195: DIY Summer Vases

Bloesem kids craft | DIY easy summer vases

DIY Summer Vases by Wimke

Next month it's there: summer! Another perfect season with flipflops, ice-cream, summer-holiday, living in the garden, swimming and flowers in our hair. An easy craft project which you can make (and put) outside. Inside the house I have lots of little vases with small flowers, but why not place freshly picked flowers on your porch or at the garden table. Collect empty glass jars, balloons and flowers and make these summers vases within 15 minutes.

#Project 194: DIY Felt Ice Cream Cones

Bloesem kids craft | DIY Felt Ice Cream Cones

DIY Felt Ice Cream Cones by Laura Murray

When I was a kid, one of my most favourite toys was play-food. I used to love playing kitchens and restaurants and had a pretty extensive collection of plastic food. I had plastic donuts, pizzas and even bacon slices but none were as cute at these quick and easy felt ice cream cones! These little beauties are so easy to make - all you need is felt, pom-poms and glue. And kids will love deciding the different 'flavours' and decorating with button and bead sprinkles!

Bloesem kids craft | DIY Felt Ice Cream Cones

What you'll need:
* Cone coloured felt (beige or light brown)
* Large coloured pom poms
* Scissors
* Glue (a hot glue gun works really well and speeds up the process! Otherwise, craft glue or PVA would work well)
* Cute buttons, beads and sequins to decorate

Bloesem kids craft | DIY Felt Ice Cream Cones

Step1: Start by cutting a circle from your felt. The size of the circle depends on the size of your pom-poms, but a 10cm diameter circle should do the trick. Now cut the circle in half and roll it on itself, making a cone shape. Then secure by sticking the exposed edge to the cone with a line of glue.

Step2: Next, simply run some glue along the inside of the cone and pop the pom-pom inside. Now you're free to decorate with buttons, beads and maybe a little cherry on top!

#Project 193: DIY Skittles set

Bloesem kids | DIY game of Skittles

DIY Skittles by Emma of Showpony

In the West Coast of Scotland we get way more than our fair share of rainy days, so I like to think of ways to bring outdoor games inside. Rather than recycle our juice bottles like a normal family, we’ve been stashing ours for a few weeks so that we could make a set of indoor skittles.

What you'll need:
* 6 empty, and clean plastic bottles.
* White acrylic paint
* White poster paint – or ordinary children’s paint
* Coloured paper
* Scissors
* Paint brush
* PVA Glue
* A blob of old mixed up play dough

Bloesem kids | DIY game of Skittles

Step1: To paint the bottles white you will need to use acrylic paint first – this sticks to the plastic and can then be painted over with cheaper white paint. To make it easier for little people to paint the bottles and (hopefully) minimise the amount of paint that gets splattered around the place, we secured the bottles to the table with a blob of old play dough.

Bloesem kids | DIY game of Skittles

Step2: Once the bottles have had a couple of coats of paint its time to decorate. Cut out shapes from your coloured papers, we made rectangles, circles and triangles. If your little ones are helping keep the shapes fairly large so it isn’t too fiddly for them.

Bloesem kids | DIY game of Skittles

Bloesem kids | DIY game of Skittles

Step3: Then using the PVA glue stick them on, brushing a layer of PVA over the whole bottle once you’re finished to keep them well and truly stuck.

Bloesem kids | DIY game of Skittles

Step4: Once they are dry, just pop the lids on.
The skittles are really light so will easily be knocked over with a nice soft ball. All you need to do now is set them up and start playing.

I hope these help pass a rainy day in your house. - Emma

Project #191: A Book for Mama

Bloesem kids craft | A book for Mama this Mother's day

Make a Mother's Day book for Mama by Yuliya  from Yufrukt

This is one of the most touching crafts I’ve ever made with kids. Not only because it’s about the most precious people in the world (mothers) but also because it’s so interesting to hear what kids come up with about their mums.
A book about MAMA! What is she like? What does she do? Kids have their answers. Let’s devote a couple of hours to document them together and believe me, you will treasure this craft forever.

This activity is for kids who can write, however you can team up with the smaller kids and write their answers for them.

Bloesem kids craft | A book for Mama this Mother's day

What you will need:

* 3 A4 sheets of paper
* Colourful paper
* Markers/ pencils/ crayons
* Glue
* A pair of scissors
* Needle and thread

Step 1: Fold three A4 sheets of paper, and then nest them together, so that you have what looks like a little book. Fasten the pages of this book together by running a needle and thread through the folded portion, or spine, of your book.

Bloesem kids craft | A book for Mama this Mother's day

Step 2: A book about mama: let’s start with the cover. We made a little portrait of mummy using green paper and marker and a multicoloured title. How are you going to design your cover? Everything is up to the kids!

Bloesem kids craft | A book for Mama this Mother's day

Step 3: Now we are going to work on the pages. There is a question for each page that kids should answer. If they come up with another question, it’s even better! Let them express themselves as much as they want.

Page one: what is your mother’s name? Use colourful paper, markers and crayons to decorate your book page by page with drawings and shapes illustrating the answers.

Step 4: Page two: tell us how many kids your mum has, and make drawings to illustrate them.

Step 5: Page three: mamas are busy ladies! Tell us what your mama does (it could be her work, free time or maybe something you do together as a family).

Step 6: Page four: what is your mother’s favourite thing (or thing to do)?

Step 7: Page five: mothers are strong, loving, helping people! They are superheroes! Tell us: why your mama is a super-mama?

Step 8: Last page: share why you love your mama as much as you do.

Give it to your mama on Mothers day, or if you made it together, why not share with other family members right now? Yuliya

Project #189: Fruit Pizza

Bloesem kids | Craft Project - Make Your own Fruit Pizza

Make your own fruit pizza by Zara S.

As a child I remember being obsessed with making my own food and helping out in the kitchen, sadly that has faded over the years. But one thing that stuck was my love to assemble my own breakfasts. It usually needs to be something quick like cereal or yoghurt but I thought this fruit pizza that I used to eat a lot would be a fun do-it-yourself for the kids. Plus it's super healthy and you can still call it a pizza so it might get them excited!

Bloesem kids | Craft Project - Make Your own Fruit Pizza

What you'll need:
* Pizza base - I used a pitta bread, you can use any dough/bread alternative
* Yoghurt - a nice alternative is cream cheese (or nutella)
* Your favourite fruits

Bloesem kids | Craft Project - Make Your own Fruit Pizza

Steps: All that you need to do for this super simple fruit pizza is spread some yoghurt or cream cheese (or nutella if this is a dessert) on to your pizza base. That top it off with all kinds of cut fruit. I would suggest strawberries, mango, blueberries, any other kinds of berries. It would even be great to sprinkle some chopped nuts over the top. (Remember to check to allergies) Let the children make their own pizza and I'm sure we'll see some fruit faces appearing on the pizzas.

Bloesem kids | Craft Project - Make Your own Fruit Pizza

That's it! A super simple DIY and would even make a fun tea party activity. Bon Appetit - Zara

Project #186: Easter eggshell planters

Bloesem kids crafts | Egg shell plants for Easter

DIY Eggshell Easter planters by Wimke

I love to eat eggs! Boiled, baked or an omelet. For a few years i had my own chickens. I had three of them. They where so tame. They would sit on my lap and potter around the garden. When I was expecting my first baby, I couln't clean the hen house anymore. I brought my three ladies to a farm where they lived happily ever after. Unfortunately I don't have fresh eggs anymore... But, back to my DIY. Last week I saved the shells, I wanted to make something for upcoming Easter so I made eggshell planters. Here's how you can make your own.
