Project #140: A Toothparty

Bloesem Kids | Toothparty DIY invites

by Véronique from Pichouline

It might seem nothing special to us now but for a child changing teeth is something really BIG! I know from experience how a child gets excited the minute he or she feels a wobbly tooth ... this craft project is an excellent way to talk about what is happening to these baby-teeth, why and how many you lose and what comes back in return… and how you can celebrate this cheerful event of growing older....

A little box inside is perfect for keeping the baby-teeth ... when the tooth fairy comes along put a little coin or present in the small box... your child will be very happy I am sure!

What you'll need:

*matchbox or small cardboard box
*paper
*pencil or stickers
*scissors
*double-sided tape or glue

Bloesem Kids | Toothparty DIY invites

Step 1:
Download the template of the tooth here, print and cut it out. Depending on the size of your box you can scale the tooth.

Step 2:
Decorate the front side of the tooth with any figure your girl or boy likes, using a pencil or stickers. I made two examples: a panda and a girl.

Step 3:
Write the first appointment with the dentist of your little one on the back or you can use it to write the dates when your little one starts to lose his/her teeth.

Project #138: Peter Pan birthday collar

Peterpan_collar

Peter Pan birthday collar by Véronique from Pichouline

I love collars and my little one too, because she doesn’t like wearing a birthday crown I promised her to make an easy Birthday collar…

Also cute for the ladies, no?

what you'll need:
* fabrics / felt & textil painter
* fabric glue
* ribbon / cord
* jump rings
* beads
* stamp
* scissors
* template, you can download it here
  Peterpan_tools_steps

Step 1 – ribbon:
Stamp “happy birthday” or another message on your ribbon. The best stamp result you will get when you use a tight weave cotton ribbon.

if you want you can stamp the front & back of your ribbon, I did only the front.

Step 2 - collar:
With this DIY we are not going to sew, so your little one can help easily.

Print out the template of the collar, or design your own, use a t-shirt of your little one to measure the opening.

Pin on your fabrics and cut out. I used felt at the back, which I decorated, of course you can use any other fabric, just make sure the fabric won’t fray.

Put your message ribbon in between, glue the 2 fabrics together on the “wrong” side.

Peterpan_tools_steps3

Step 3 - tassel:
Cut a cardboard 4 x 4cm. Before you wrap around the thread cut 1 thread of +/-12 cm, you have to use it later.

Wrap your thread around the cardboard. Cut one end of the wrapped thread with your scissors.

Use the 12cm thread and wrap it around the centre, make a tight knot.

Cut a thread of +/- 12cm in another or the same colour . Tie it around the tassel, make a knot.

If your tassel is too thick you can shorten the middle threads and cover it by the outer threads. If it’s necessary you can trim the tassel to make it even.

Add a jump ring to the center thread.

Attach the tassel to your ribbon with a jump ring.

Step 4 – birthday bead:
Take a wooden bead and stamp or write the age of your little one on it, let it dry for a moment.

Attach it to your tassel, I used a silver crimp bead, so the bead doesn't fall off your thread.

Project #136: DIY paper flower magnet

Magnet_Paperflower_result2

DIY paper flower magnet by Véronique from Pichouline

I love flowers….now you can use them to hang up your favourite pictures.

what you'll need:
* paper
* scissors / punch
* cord
* glue / double-sided tape
* beads
* magnets
* water colours / brush

Magnetflower_steps1

Step 1 - flower:
Print out the template of the flowers here.

Or you can make your own design, reduce each size of your flower.

Cut out.

Step 2:
Splatter some water colour on it, let dry.

Step 3 - leaves:
Punch out a star or draw it yourself and cut out. Make sure the star is a little bit bigger than your biggest flower.

Step 4:
Make a whole in the middle of your flowers and star.

Magnetflower_steps2

Step 5:
Start beading and make a knot on the two sides of your bead so it looks like a stamen. Bead the flowers starting with the smallest and end with the star (leaves).

Make a knot at the back, if you want you can seal the flowers by gluing them a little bit in the middle, twist the flowers.

Bend the leaves of the flowers starting with the biggest up to the smallest, so you get a “3D”flower.

Step 6:
Glue the magnet on the back of your flower.

Because I don’t have anything magnetic in our interior, I used the screws in our wall to cover with the flower magnet and to hang up our favourite pictures.

Of course you can use the paper flower, without the magnet, to glue on your wrapping paper, use as table decoration, napkin ring, garland…..Enjoy!

Project #128: DIY graphic 3D confetti

DIY graphic 3D confetti by Véronique from Pichouline

Beautiful decoration on your table, wall, gift paper, Christmas tree….you can even make a garland with it!

what you'll need:
* coloured paper
* glue
* pencil
* ruler
* scissors or cutter

 3D_confetti_tools

3D_confetties_step1

Step 1: Make the confetti

If you don’t have round paper, you can make the circles yourself using a compass, radius 4cm (diameter 8cm), cut them out, or use a large punch.

  3D_confetties_step2

Step 2: Make the graphic 3D banner
The best result you will get when you use paper with different colours on front and back.

Cut out a rectangular of 5 by 10cm.

Draw the lines on the paper, following the template, or print out the template on your paper. You can download the template here. Fold the rectangular in half. Cut along the oblique lines.

Fold it along the dotted lines up, skip a cut. You can choose how you fold it (under or on top the next triangle or on top) try different options.

Glue the banner on your round paper. Cut the edges.

Project #127: sticker dot garland

CF4_result1

DIY sticker dot garland by Véronique from Pichouline

Perhaps the easiest craft project ever shown here on BKids ... but often the simple things can be so much fun.

what you'll need:
* round coloured stickers
* thread

CF4_tools

CF4_steps

Quick, easy and fun to make with your little one ... just one step!

Step 1:
Stick the stickers back to back onto the thread, about 10cm apart. You can choose a one-one, one-two or random…pattern. The pattern can change when you hang the garland because it will twist around a little bit.

Tadaa…..Let’s party!

Project #126: pom-pom insects

DIY_insects

Pom-pom insect by Véronique from Pichouline

My three year old loves insects, so for her third birthday I want to make an insect inspired party… because I don’t want to scare the other kids I made some pom- pom insects ...

DIY_insect_pompom_tools

what you'll need:
* paper
* paper glue
* template of an insect recto and verso, you can download one here
* wool
* round punch
* scissors
* fork

DIY_insect_pompom_step1

Step 1 – make the pom-pom:
For me this is the fastest way to make pom-poms.

Wrap around the wool around the two outer prongs of a fork until it gets really thick.

If you think it’s thick enough, cut the end of the wool and use a new small piece of thread to bunch the wool together. In the middle of the pom pom make a tight knot. Take your wool off the fork and cut all the loops. Depending of the circumference of your punch you can bring it into shape by trimming it.

DIY_insect_pompom_step2

Step 2 – insect
Print out the template of the insect, it’s nice to use a template of an insect with a “wooly, round” bottom, like a bumblebee….Keep in mind that you scale the insect, so that your pom-pom fits the insect’s bottom.

Put the two sides on each other.

Glue one side and cut them out. It’s easier to leave one side open so you can put the cord of your pom-pom in between.
Insects

Step 3
Make a hole in the bottom of the insect using your punch or scissors.

Put the pom-pom in between and glue the open side of your insect.

DIY_insect_pompom_cake

Bzzzzz……Let your imagination work…..you can make a cake-topper, garland……

Project #125: Potato stamped baby towel

Teatowel_potato

DIY potato stamped baby towel by Véronique from Pichouline

Lovely present to give for a newborn or just let the siblings make it to welcome the new baby!

You can use it as a swaddle, nursing cover, sheet, towel,….

What you'll need:
*cotton muslin towel/swaddle/wrap
*fabric paint
*foam paint brush or roller
*plate
*potato
*knife

Potato_mix

Step 1:Make sure your swaddle lays flat on your table. Use a tablecloth, place mat or paper to make sure the fabric paint won’t make marks on your table.

Step 2:
Think about the design you want to make. I’ve chosen a moon/half circle design in 3 different sizes.
Carve the design in your potato and cut it out with a sharp knife.
It’s easier to use the two ends of your potato because they are easier to hold during stamping. Make sure the depth of the stamp is big enough so you don’t get an imprint of the outline of the potato on your fabric.

Step 3:
Apply your paint on the potato stamp by using a foam paint brush. Try to apply the colour as evenly as possible on the stamp.
After each row, I wiped of the paint of the stamp if there was too much.

Step 4:
Follow the instructions of the manufacturer. I had to do the following:
Let the towels dry for 24 hours. When dry, iron them to ensure the paint will stay put. Make sure you place  a piece of spare fabric or paper between your printed design and the iron to prevent direct contact.

Welcome to the family little one!
