*Guest Post by Hannah Showler from Showler and Showler

Hello, my name is Hannah Showler. I’m a designer living and working with my husband Tom and young son Joe on the South coast of England. My childhood was very creative, my Dad is an architect and my Mum loves crafts. When I was young my sisters & I were always making things be it a papier mache tiger or home made playdough fish, there was always a project on the go.
Together my husband & I run a creative design partnership named Showler and Showler. We produce wall art, greeting cards and mugs and also design on a freelance basis. We have worked on designs for a number of children’s lifestyle brands including Lula Sapphire, Bonnie Baby and Toby Tiger. In addition, Tom runs a busy Design agency, which has just recently relaunched under its new name, Rocket Base.
Ingela
What I like about certain prints:
I love design that is simple, colourful, bold and clean. I think prints for children should also appeal to parents and be something they’d be happy to hang on their walls too. I would love to have all of my chosen prints on my walls, that would make me very happy! My favourites are:

*Ingela Peterson... I love the work of Ingela Peterson. Her designs are happy and fun and great to look at. A favourite of mine is the Tivoli Poster.

Graziela

By Graziela is another favourite of mine. They use lovely colours and the prints give you lots to talk about with your children; I can imagine making up lots of stories from the pictures. Above the ABC poster. {House Tour from By Graziela here on BKids}

Barbar

Barbar... I love the illustrations from the Barbar books. This print is a timeless classic; such  a beautiful, playful drawing.

Marionbillet

Marion Billet’s work is lively and fun, something I’m sure my son would love on his wall. Image above shows a part of the poster 'Transports'.

Sarahjane

Sarah Jane... her work creates a nostalgia for carefree, happy, childhood days. Here is some of her lovely work including two new prints from the Children around the World Series.

Sarahjanestudio

Sarah is producing a new print every month during 2011 to capture a Childhood moment in our world’s favourite 12 cities. Rocket Launch , Summer tea party , Paris, Tokyo.

Martinez

Sigrid Martinez
...I love the colours used here and the way she has used the animals. What lovely drawings and a great addition to a little one’s wall. Above: Animalphabet .

Showler

Showler and Showler ...I believe that learning should be fun and I love art that is educational too. Children love learning and our ABC and 123 canvases are a fun way to teach your child numbers and letters. We also do a personalised ABC canvas, which is very popular and unique. You can include your child(ren) in the canvas; a great keepsake that can include all the family.

My inspiration comes from chatting with my husband Tom. We work from our studio at home, so it’s nice to be able to bounce ideas around.

Blogs I really enjoy reading blogs. A few of my favourites are, of course, Bloesem Kids, Print pattern, Baby Style File, Ingela Peterson , Made by Joel and decor8.

An early morning run. As we live on the coast, I enjoy going for an early morning run along the seafront. It’s a great way to clear your head and give you time to focus and think about new ideas.

My son Joe is 3 years old and a great source of inspiration for me. I love the way children have such fantastic imaginations. We really enjoy drawing and creating together.

Amazon

Story time is another inspiration; I love children’s books. A few current favourites are: Sparkle and Spin, Spot it, How to Catch a Star and Colour

Browsing book shops... I have a love of all things to do with paper and design and like nothing more than browsing around book and stationery shops. Of course, the chance to do this when you have a small child does not come up very often... but, on a recent trip to London, I indulged my passion by spending a few hours in the Tate Modern shop. I do seem always to be drawn to the children’s picture books, I love the simple illustrations and colours.

Printpattern

Other designers I can recommend are: *Bowie from the Print and Pattern blog is a great source of inspiration and the book that accompanies the blog is fantastic too. I was lucky enough to have my work featured in the book and feel very honoured to be a part of it.

Zoemellor

*My good friend, Zoe Mellor, runs the children’s wear company, Toby Tiger. I used to work for Zoe before I set up Showler and Showler and we have very similar tastes when it comes to design. We used to joke and say that we were style sisters! I love meeting up with Zoe and talking about colours and patterns. *Orla Kiely ... I love Orla’s work; her sense of colour is fantastic. I recently got her new book,  Pattern and love to flick through its pages.

Orla

About my own work: Colour is very important to me; I like to use bold colours and simple shapes in my work. Most of my designs are on a white background with an injection of colour.
Showler and Showler has been running for a number of years now and we will soon be launching a new range of canvases, prints and cards. We’d love to know what you’d like to see and hear your feedback.

Thank you Hannah for this very nice and informative post!
